Stripping attachments out of email

So I developed the need to strip attachments out of emails … or rather, to get hold of the attachments and store them to disk.  A lot of googling later only one solution seemed to surface and seeing that I couldn’t get at metamail’s homepage and thus the packages I had to go another root.  So after posing the question in #glug.za on FreeNODE python once more came up.  This time I decided to just take the plunge and write some python …

Email Rant no 2

10-foot long legal displaimers/footers must die! The disclaimers are not really enforceable anyway, and the footers just mess around with replies/forwards.

I’ve recently started to see this trend more and more.  I’m receiving an increasing amount with mail absoltely no subject line.  And in some rarer cases, a totally inappropriate subject line.

Temporary errors are NOT permanent

I’ve had some complaints recently of greylisting generating bounces.  This should not be happening, so until this morning I made this off as total crap stories that people are pulling on me in order to once more receive their daily dose of spam.  As it turns out, however, there are in fact some large govermental organizations that believes that temporary errors are in fact permanent (And probably others too).
