VoIP Load Balancing over PPPoE links

I initially wanted to say over DSL, but then realized that that’s not quite appropriate since we’ve just actually completed the naïve approach making use of iBurst.  So on my way back home … I churned some ideas that I’d like to share (And log, before I forget them).  The ideas will build around the IAX/2 protocol as it’s much, much simpler, but the concepts should apply equally to SIP.  Obviously the ideal is to just get a bigger pipe …

Calculating VoIP Bandwidth requirements

I’ve racked my head a few times now trying to calculate how big a pipe I need for various call concurrencies.  So I’ve decided it’s finally time to sit down and do the calculations for both SIP/RTP and IAX2.

Multi-account VoIP providers

In some cases one would like to be able to connect multiple SIP/IAX accounts to the same upstream server. Each account may have differing creditials etc and this can (with asterisk at least) create some authentication issues. Fortunately there exists some “solutions”.

Hooking cell phones up to your (IP) PBX

I recently got overly annoyed with both the office phone and my cell phone going off on me at the same time. Then I bumped into chan_mobile. Now I have some nasty ideas. Why not use bluetooth to automatically hook your cellphone up to the PBX whenever you walk into the office? Sounds hard? Well, as a matter of fact, it’s not.
